You Are My Favorite Friend

Hi everyone! I’m here with a card for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.

For this card, I used the supplies that came with the June 2014 card kit. This card kit, like all the other kits is a great value and in my opinion one of the best kits that has been released. The theme for the SSS Wednesday Challenge is “You Gotta Have Friends”.

Here is my card —

You Are My Favorite Friend

I started this card with Bazzill Candy Hearts card stock cut to a standard size card with the fold on top. For the front panel, I used Neenah Solar White card stock cut to 5 x 3 3/4 inches. For the background of the white panel, I used a technique that Jennifer McGuire demonstrated on this card. Jennifer demonstrated this technique using blues and greens to create a water scene. I decided to use greys to create a neutral background. Any alcohol marker will do but I used the Fine Touch markers in different shades of warm grey.

For the flowers, I stamped the different circle flowers using lighter inks and the details of the flowers using darker inks. I will mention every ink color I used in the supply list below. For the sentiment, I also used the Favorite Flowers set that came with the kit. Using Studio G black pigment ink, I stamped the sentiment and used some Martha Stewart clear embossing powder to make the sentiment pop.

To finish the card, I attached the panel to the base and accented the flowers and leaves with the Clear Wink of Stella glitter pen.

That’s it for this card. I will be back soon with more cards from this card kit.

Online Card Class – Stenciled

Hi everyone! I have been juggling many different things in the past few weeks and these next couple of blog posts are for me to catch up with many cards I haven’t blogged about.

This first post is all about the recent Online Card Class I took called STENCILED. It was an amazing class and I learned many techniques in using stencils. I blogged one card I made and I will share the rest of them in this post.

STN_participantThe first card I’m going to share is a Valentines day (sorry for the delay) card where I traced the stencils with colored pencils just like Kristina shared. Here is the card —

Happy Valentines Day - Stencil

I started this card with some Neenah Creative card stock in Wisteria cut to a standard size card. Then on a panel of Strathmore water color paper, I traced some hearts from a Heidi Swapp stencil using watercolor pencils. I intended to blend the hearts with water but at the end, I just decided to leave it as is and not add any water. I stamped the sentiment from SSS Only Have Eyes For You set in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I attached the watercolor paper to some black card stock. I punched the side with the heart border from American Crafts KnockOuts. To finish the card, I attached the black panel to the Wisteria card stock and drew some  dash lines with a white gel pen.

For my second card, I wanted to use embossing paste which has been growing in popularity very quickly. As quickly as I got excited about, I realized that I wasn’t really good at it and needed more practice to perfect it. I made two very similar cards, here they are  –

Love You - Mosaic Heart stencil

I used the SSS Mosaic heart stencil for the card. I used some ink pads to color the paste and then spread it out. For the one on the left, I used Memento Rose Bud ink and for the one on the right, I used Hero Arts Pale Tomato ink. I realized that its not that easy to apply the paste and it took me a while to realize that I had to load my spatula from the back – thus the splotchy mess towards the bottom of the heart. For the sentiment, I used the Love This set from Simon Says Stamp and customized it to say “you” instead of “this”

So these are the cards I created for the Online Card Class – Stenciled. Class may be over, but I will continue to use stencils on future cards.

That’s it for today! Thanks for reading.

Thinking of You

Hey everyone. Today’s card is an entry for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.

The theme for the challenge is ANIMAL ANTICS. I was hopping along the STAMPtember Blog Hop over at Simon Says Stamp and I came across this card from Jennifer McGuire. It totally blew my mind and I was in awe of her creative genius. I immediately fell in love with it and decided to try the same technique. Jennifer used the Lots of Dots set and the Big Hello die cut. I did not have any of those products with me so I had to improvise.

Here is my card —

Thinking Of You

I started the card with some Bazzill Basics card stock in Feather Boa folded to a standard size card and I used some Strathmore water color paper for a white panel.

I had a stencil of a bird and a heart that I recently got from Hobby Lobby that I thought would work great. Now for the dots…I originally thought of using a stylus to make the dots but then I saw the berries in the SSS Life is a Journey stamp set that I thought would work well. So I started stamping. I divided the bird into 6 parts so I could change colors easily. I used different Hero Arts shadow inks – Pale Tomato, Fresh Peach, Soft Cantaloupe, Butter Bar, Soft Pool and Tide Pool in that order. After I stamped the dots, I used my stylus to fill in some areas that were bare. I also used one of the hearts using the same technique in Pale Tomato Ink.

For the sentiment, I used one from the Hero Arts OWH Year Round Sentiments. I embossed it in silver embossing powder. To finish off the card, I adhered the white panel onto the card stock base with some foam adhesives.
